Salary: £34,905 - £37,173 per annum (dependent on skills and experience).
Hours: Full time
Contract Type: Open Ended
Location: Science and Technology Facilities Council, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Harwell, Oxfordshire

Together, our scientists, technologists, engineers, and business support teams explore the unknown and turn what they find into work that changes the world around us. Whether it’s sending probes into space or finding new ways to treat cancer, everyone here plays a vital role in making a positive difference to society.

Come and discover how much you can achieve when you’re surrounded by world-leading experts, encouraged to constantly learn and empowered to explore your curiosity.

We have a position available to work at the strategic heart of STFC as part of the STFC Executive Office. You will be responsible for the secretariat and board support to our two Science Boards, which provide strategic advice on our grant-funded science programmes, our facilities & laboratories and cross-cutting activities such as computing/data and skills.

This is a multifaceted role that requires a pro-active, professional and motivated individual. A scientific background is not required, but a curiosity or passion for the research we support is. You will be part of a small supportive team and will work alongside the strategic leads for Science Boards in our Programmes Directorate and National Labs, as well as interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.

Key activities of the Science Board Manager role include:

•    working with the Science Board Strategic leads and the Science Board Chairs to develop work programmes and meeting agendas
•    organising the Science Board meetings, including the distribution of meeting material and arranging the meeting logistics such as venues, catering and accommodation
•    taking minutes, writing reports and feedback, and following up actions - we are keen to exploit new technologies such as AI to take advantage of efficiencies
•    providing the key interface for Science Board members including responding to queries, processing expenses and undertaking the annual declaration of interest exercise
•    supporting the management of the annual recruitment exercise for our Science Board members
•    responsibility for maintaining and updating the web pages for Science Board on UKRI-STFC’s website and for managing the SharePoint site for the Boards

This role is based at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, but we support a hybrid working model. Some UK travel may be required as meetings are likely to take place at STFC/UKRI sites across the UK.

We ask some of the biggest questions in the universe, to answer some of the biggest challenges in the world. Whatever our role, we have the freedom to explore, learn and connect, as part of a community that loves to share knowledge and support one another.

As one of Europe’s largest research organisations, this is a place where there’s always something new to learn – about the world around us, about your career, but most of all, about yourself. Join us and discover what’s possible.

STFC values their employees by offering a benefits package designed to provide an excellent work/life balance including 30 days’ annual leave, 10.5 public and privilege holidays, flexible working hours, exceptional average salary pension scheme, social and sporting activities and societies and a subsidised restaurant.
