Payroll Performance Leader

Swindon, Newport – flexible and hybrid working options

Band C - £26,406 per annum

Our Payroll Services team is a group of professionals who are passionate about providing high quality service delivery to our clients and customers. Our team is a very fast-paced and high-energy environment as our deadlines are fixed, and our volumes are high – this makes for a really rewarding role with plenty of opportunity to learn and grow.

Operating flexibly and embracing hybrid working, the team meets up once or twice weekly in the office to share best practice and discuss issues. The leaders and managers work collaboratively with the team to foster a positive, supportive yet hard-working culture.  You will need a tenacious working style and be comfortable in a high-pressure environment with all the challenges that working in a busy, high-volume payroll team brings

As a Performance Leader, your duties will include:

  • Provide management and support to employees within our payroll teams.
  • Ensure the team meets the service and performance levels agreed with customers.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders at different levels to build relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Escalate and liaise with Payroll Specialists to efficiently resolve more complex payroll queries.
  • Deal with escalated queries from the team or UKSBS Contact Centre and Customer Experience teams.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the monthly payroll checklist.
  • Challenge and approve each payroll milestone to maximise quality and mitigate risk of pay errors.
  • Reconcile and approve 3rd party payment schedules and deal with discrepancies.
  • Work with 3rd party providers (e.g. Edenred) to ensure prompt and accurate delivery of workplace benefits.
  • Work with Finance Services colleagues to resolve any payroll general ledger discrepancies.
  • Provide regular performance feedback to team members, conduct monthly 121s and support with career progression aspirations and regular coaching.
  • Provide support to the Payroll Services Leadership team to maximise the operation’s performance delivery and to increase customer satisfaction.
  • Liaise closely with other Payroll Performance Leaders to foster strong relationships and optimise resources.

Flexibility may be required to respond to the changing needs of the organisation and the service. You may also be asked to support with ad hoc projects and pieces of work relevant to your role in line with business requirements.

To do this role well you will need to possess the following:

  • Experience of managing and developing a small team
  • Demonstrable experience within a payroll service delivery department
  • Attention to detail, ability to spot discrepancies in payroll data
  • Excellent numerical skills
  • A good understanding of Excel e.g. VLOOKUP’s would be desirable
  • Ability to interpret complex payroll data
  • Driven by high quality, results and outcomes with a focus on delivering excellent customer service

To be considered, you will need to successfully obtain BPSS security clearance before commencing the role.

Working pattern

Full-time, hybrid.
